Are there books you can not bind?
Yes, books with brittle pages can not be bound. If you turn the page and the corner cracks, the book is too brittle to be rebound. In some cases if the print has a wide margin and the brittle edges an corners are not severe, the brittle materail can be shaved off and then the book can be rebound. This leads in a page that is now not the original size but still can be opened and read.
If you have a book of value or collectible status we strongly recommend that the book be appraised by a trustworthy firm as rebinding can sometimes deminish the value.
It is hard to say where the point of no rebound is, as each case is unique. We simply must inspect the item before we make a final decision.
